Ambulance services are provided through Alberta Health Services. There are currently 8 F/T EMS staff. These individuals provide EMS services 24 hours/day at an ALS (Advanced Life Support) level. Cardston is serviced by x 2 FT ambulances and Glenwood (Mid-Rivers) also has an ambulance that is staffed on an on-call basis by local residents.
Many of the EMS staff are firefighters as well on their days off work.
All of our firefighters are trained to a minimum of Standard First Aid, CPR-C with AED level. All of our firefighters have also received Naloxone training to intervene in an opioid overdose situation. Several others have furthered their medical training to the EMR/FMR level. This allows them to help out the EMS staff on a variety of incidents as well as provided medical first response in the event that an ambulance is not immediately available to take a call. We provide First Response and First Aid standby staff for various community events such as Rodeo’s, marathons, and other sporting events. Contact us if you are interested in having us at your event.
